MARCELLA COHEN SCHOLARSHIP FOR NURSING
Application deadline is March 1, 2012.
To be considered for this scholarship of up to $5,000, an applicant must meet the following criteria at time of application: 1) be a junior or senior student (during 2012-2013) pursuing a degree in the Bachelor of Science-Nursing at Saint Louis University; 2) be enrolled as a full-time student; 3) have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; and, 4) demonstrate financial need by filing the FAFSA report with the Office of Financial Aid by March 1, 2012.
Marcella Cohen was appointed as Director of Visiting Nurse Association of St. Louis, assuming her duties May 1, 1953. She was a native of Illinois and received her basic nursing education at Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Lincoln, IL. She did post-graduate studies in public health at Saint Louis University, the University of Minnesota, and Washington University (St. Louis). She was a staff nurse of Visiting Nurse Association of St. Clair County, IL, for 21 years and the Director from 1941. In 1953 she was given an award of appreciation for her work in the field of nursing by the East St. Louis Chamber of Commerce. She was the only woman to be so honored. After her appointment as Director of Visiting Nurse Association in St. Louis, she initiated a number of significant changesin the association.

- Submit a copy of completed FAFSA report by March 1, 2012.
- Complete the scholarship application and submit along with completed faculty recommendation (in a sealed envelope).
- Attach a cover letter to the application materials and submit by March 1, 2012 to the address listed on the appropriate application.
